Google Is Now Blocking Negative Reviews Left for Businesses By Ex-Employees

Some of you may have experienced first-hand just how damaging a negative online review can be, and negative reviews left by unhappy ex-employees certainly can deliver a harsh blow to a company’s online reputation. When there can already be an assault on a company by fake reviews and competitors leaving disparaging remarks, reviews left by ex-employees were largely up to employers to flag and attempt to have removed.

Each online review site or platform has their own set of rules that must be followed. Finally, Google has updated their policy to prohibit reviews left by ex-employees, citing a conflict of interest when “posting negative content about a current or former employment experience”. Now that these types of reviews are plainly against Google’s rules, business owners may finally have the support they need from Google to help block or remove them.

Google’s newly updated list of Prohibited and Restricted Content is outlined here.
